Her experiences span across strategy, product, organizational operations management, and developing programs that amplify a company’s mission. She most recently did this at an early-stage EdTech company, where she grew the organization to achieve a valuation of over $1 billion and expanded their portfolio to support over half of the K-12 students in the U.S. Now her focus is on supporting our planet. She is an advisor for climate and ocean tech startups where she helps entrepreneurs scale their sustainable solutions.

She enjoys helping organizations lock down funding, reach product-market fit, and engage partners from various sectors to develop programs that scale. When not at work, you can find Nickelle volunteering at the Marine Mammal Care Center and the Aquarium of the Pacific, as well as exploring the beautiful California kelp forests. Her goal is to restore our ocean’s health and help people develop respect and stewardship for our ocean and its inhabitants.

Most recently, Katherine served as Marine Science Magnet Coordinator at New River Middle School where she successfully oversaw the implementation of curriculum in the classrooms, developed marketing strategies, and built partnerships within the community to create field experiences for her students that expanded their marine science education.

Katherine grew up in Minnesota before receiving her degree in Marine Biology from Long Island University (LIU) Southampton in New York. In her undergraduate work, she focused on coral reef ecology with summer research in Hawaii. She then began her career working as a marine biologist and educator in Curacao which solidified her love for marine science and became a PADI Open Water Instructor.

In 2002, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL and pursued her master’s in marine science and education at Nova Southeastern University. In 2006, she also began teaching marine science at NewRiver Middle School (NRMS). From there she transitioned to become the Marine Magnet Coordinator and played a pivotal role in elevating the school and marine science program to become a National Certified Magnet School in 2018 and many distinctions over her 11 years in that role. With her past experiences in Marine Science research and education, this opportunity to build the blue economy in our region while taking care of our backyard is the exciting next step. Katherine is also involved in various committees including Plywood Regatta with the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) connecting students to the marine industry through the boat building challenge.

He is a Hydrographic Scientist with expertise in multibeam mapping, multibeam backscatter analysis, and the investigation of sediment and particulate matter transport pathways. He applies multibeam bathymetry and multibeam backscatter techniques to contribute to activities such as updating nautical charts, sediment characterization, marine conservation initiatives, and environmental surveys.

His proficiency extends to numerical modeling and remote sensing, which he employs for the calibration and validation of hydrodynamic sediment models. Additionally, he conducts research to analyze the adverse effects of environmental conditions like cold fronts and increased river discharge on coastal erosion and deposition. This research sheds light on the influence of oceanic factors, including ocean currents and tidal movement, as well as meteorological conditions on sediment transport along the seabed from the nearshore region to the continental shelf. These sediment transport pathways have significant implications for land loss and property damage in the nearshore coastal areas.

Her time as an undergraduate not only equipped her with knowledge but also ignited her passion for scuba diving, leading her to become an active and engaged member of the scuba community. Her dedication, along with that of her fellow students, played a pivotal role in convincing URI to establish a formal dive program, creating opportunities for experiential learning among students.

Post university graduation, this trajectory took her to becoming the owner and Chief Operating Officer of International Training, where her achievements in the diving industry have steadily grown over the years. Together with her team, she has been instrumental in propelling ITI to remarkable success and expansion on both national and global scales.

One of Stephttps://internationaltraining.us/hanie’s most commendable feats lies in her ability to extend dive education beyond the recreational realm. Through her strategic utilization of International Training’s eLearning program, she has successfully incorporated advanced levels of dive education. Today, International Training stands as a beacon of innovation, offering tailor-made web-based systems for businesses, encompassing certification management, eLearning courses, and customized programs.

Beyond her endeavors with International Training, Stephanie is also the founder of Clear Currents, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering education, conservation, and sustainable utilization of the world’s oceans, rivers, and lakes. Clear Currents serves as a unifying force for individuals driven by their passion for water bodies, effecting change at a grassroots level with a global reach.
